「It’s getting dangerous to collect copper coins in this city.」

「Yeah, it’s getting pretty scarce, and any more than that and we’ll be found out and in danger.」

「Let’s take out what we have. Make the arrangements.」

    「Got it.」

It’s a man’s voice, and it sounds like two people having a conversation.

    「Customer-san?」

    「Whoa!」

I saw a fluttering, waving hand in front of me. That came out of nowhere, and surprised me.

「What’s the matter, sir, why are you staring at the door?」

    「Aaah, nothing.」

    I muddled up my words.

The voice I heard came from behind the door, outside the store.

    「I’m sorry, I just remembered something pressing.」

「What? But the food is still──」

    「I’ll be back.」

I said, and ran out of the store.

    Then, listened closely.

I pick up the voice from earlier in the hustle and bustle.

It’s like when you’re listening to music, and you’re trying to pick up the sound of a drum, for example, from all the other sounds.

「It’s nice to make money, but it’s a pain in the ass to transport.」

I caught the voice I heard earlier.

    I chased after it.

The two people from earlier are together again, chatting.

So I went after the voices. I chased after him, relying on his voice.

We turned down a few alleys and entered an unpopulated area.

    His voice suddenly became quiet.

    「How did you get in?」

    I looked around.

Behind the alley, there are various buildings.

I stood in front of a building with a door that looked like it would let me in, and listened carefully each time.

Then, at the fifth door, I heard the voices of the men from earlier again.

Well, that’s all of them, all right, we’ll get them out tonight. We’ll meet up with the guys in the other city and send them to the smelting furnace.」

「Hey, how much money can I make off this?」

「At the current price of copper, if I melt …… and sell it, it’ll roughly double.」

「Wow, it’s higher than before. Which means this is going to be twice as much.」

    「That’s what I mean.」

    「Wow」

Words of ruffians pretending to be chivalrous. It was as bad as I suspected, when I first heard about it.

「Sell off the copper coins to …… melt down the metal and sell the raw metal?」

Melting down the money that the government is making without permission is a serious crime that is prohibited in any country.

I was going to step in at this point, but I’ve been listening to them, and they have business partners, and they have collaborators.

Stepping in here would surely result in the lizard’s tail being cut off.

    「……」

I remembered where I was and left the place.

「So this is the government office?」

I asked the people in town and came to the city hall.

I asked about something like a police force, a place to crack down on criminals, and they told me about this place.

    「Stop! Who are you?」

Just as I had done when I first came to this city, an armed gatekeeper stopped me.

Well, it’s a natural reaction, but I’ m ready for it too.

I took out the fan that Princess Helene had given me and showed it to the gatekeeper.

「The princess sent me. I want to see the person in charge here.」

    「Princess ……? Mmm, that’s a royal coat of arms …… and it’s real.」

The gatekeeper confirmed the authenticity of the fan with magic (or something like that?).

Instantly, his demeanor changed to that of a different person.

    「Please wait a moment, I’ll let you know shortly.」

    「OK」

    The gatekeeper rushed inside.

I waited there for a while.

About ten minutes later, the gatekeeper came out.

「I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Almosso-sama is waiting for you inside. Please come in.」

The gatekeeper let me through and I went inside.

I followed his lead and came to a place that looked like an office.

There was a middle-aged, well-dressed man in the room.

When the man saw me, he stood up and introduced himself with a serious face.

    「My name is Kefka Almosso.」

    「I’m Yuki Kakeru 」

「I’m unfamiliar with your name. How should I address you?」

    「Yuuki or Kakeru, I don’t care which.」

「Then, Kakeru-sama. I understand you are on an errand for Her Highness.」

    「Ahhh, here is the proof.」

Deception, for the second time. I felt a little guilty because it was a lie, but I held back and showed him my fan.

「This is …… indeed the property of Her Highness Helene Teresia Mercouri. I apologize for the inconvenience. I don’t mean to doubt you, but the gatekeeper told me you were 『a man in unfamiliar clothing』, so I wanted to be sure.

    「That’s all good.」

I’m prepared to be suspected to some extent. That’s why I brought up Princess Helene’s stuff.

「We have more important things to talk about.」

「What will we be talking about?」

「There are people collecting copper coins in this city, melting them down and selling them.」

「…… That’s not something you can joke about.」

    Armosso’s complexion changed dramatically.

It was a natural reaction, considering the magnitude of the situation.

    「I’m not kidding.」

I told him what I had heard and seen.

I told him about the lack of change in the diner and what the men were talking about.

I told Armosso exactly what I had done.

「We have received reports of a decline in copper coins. As a city where peddlers come and go, I just assumed it was taken out in the course of business. ……」

    「That’s what’s happening. We’ve got to do something about this, don’t we?」

「That’s right. By the way, does Her Highness know about this?」

    「…… No, I don’t know.」

I said to myself. Princess Helene …… because I don’t know how royalty reacts in these situations.

「I was just inquiring about the copper coins at the princess’s request.」

and lie in a bland, undetectable manner.

「Oh, really? No, let’s do something about it first. Damaging money is a felony anyway, so let’s capture them and then ask for a decision.」

    「Yeah.」

    「I’ll call the soldiers.」

    Armosso clapped his hands.

Immediately there was a thud and the sound of footsteps, and three armed soldiers entered.

Three, not many, but it’s better than none.

There are several people who need to be dealt with, and I can’t physically …… literally get around them on my own.

    That’s what I was thinking.

    「Seize that man.」

    「Ha!」

    Huh?」

As I was startled by the suddenness of the situation, one of the soldiers held me down and handcuffed me from behind.

    「You. ……」

「I’m sorry, but that’s the way it is.」

「You were in on it too!」

    「That’s right.」

    「Why would you do that?」

I ask Armosso as he holds me down.

「Because it’s lucrative. Originally, the government officials who governed cities like ours were given a certain amount of casting and forging rights. Damaged coins will be collected, exchanged, and re-minted into proper coins. This commission is quite delectably lucrative because it can be determined freely──」

    Armosso chuckled.

    It was a horrible smile.

「──It’s much better to sell it as copper. I was trying to make a fortune by teaming up with someone behind the scenes, but I never expected to be spotted by Her Highness.」

    「……」

「But it seems that the wind is still blowing in my direction. If you ask me, Her Highness does not know about this matter yet. In other words, if we get rid of you here and re-mint the recovered copper coins into new ones, we can still fool them.」

    「……」

「I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to ask you to leave …… here. If you resent me, you should resent your own recklessness.」

    「No hard feelings.」

    I said.

The voice was cold, a little surprising even to me.

Armosso is surprised. He gave me a look that said, “What are you talking about?”

「What do you mean by that?」

    「That’s what I mean.」

    I rose to my feet.

I was held down from behind, but I stood up normally.

    「Hmm!?」

With a lot of force, I tore off the handcuffs.

It was made of steel, but I tore it off without difficulty.

Armosso rolls his eyes. He looks at me incredulously.

The look on his face was also infuriating.

    「Apparently, it’s better to catch you first.」

I said as if I were declaring.

    Let the punishment commence.

  • Kujibiki Tokushou: Musou Harem-ken Volume 1 Chapter 4

I came to the mansion alone at night.

Normally, I would have thought a real estate agent would show me around in a situation like this, but instead, the owner of Salamus Trading Company said,

「I’ll take care of all the details.」

and did not come with me.

What’s in it for me? I asked, and he rambled on in a subtle, rapid voice about making contracts, registering with the government, arranging for missing furniture, and so on.

Can’t we do that later? And now…

「Our motto is to make your life as comfortable as possible as soon as possible.」

I said something to that effect.

Well, he escaped earlier on. He must be really scared of this mansion, I thought.

I used the key I had been given to open the door of the mansion through the fence that separated the property and went inside.

Taking the lamp, I checked the rooms one by one.

It was a large mansion with more than twenty different rooms, including a living room, a parlor, and a bedroom.

It doesn’t look lived in, but it’s fully furnished.

    「I knew you’d run.」

A funny feeling came over me. There was no way that the businessman could not have grasped the fact that we had all of this, at least in a situation where we hardly needed to arrange for furniture.

Giggling, I walked up the carpeted stairs to the second floor. There was a balcony, so I went outside.

It was just on the outskirts of the city, and from there we could see the whole city at night.

The sparse lights and flickering lights in the center of the city are beautiful, and at the same time, they make you realize how high the rank of the place you are standing in is.

The original property was expensive, so this kind of view must have been taken into account.

    It felt good.

This night, after a good night’s sleep, I rested in the most magnificent bedroom.

Maybe it was because the bed was too big, but it didn’t bother me that much.

The next day, after hunting a mountain ox to meet my quota, I wandered around the city.

I can make more money, but now that I’ve got the mansion, I want to fill it full of things.

I want to replace some furniture here and there, and I also want to have things that I actually use on a daily basis.

For example, I had a hard time sleeping, so I wanted to change my pillow and futon mattress.

There are many things like that, but there is one thing that is more important than all of that.

    「I’d like to hire a maid.」

That’s what I said to the worried-looking shopkeeper when I came to Salamus Trading Company.

    「Maid, sir?」

「Yeah, maid. It’s impossible for one person to maintain a mansion like that.」

    「I see, that’s what you meant.」

    「The …… haunted house thing, isn’t it really scary?」

    「No, I don’t think so.」

Salamus panicked a little, then coughed and apologised.

「We’ll take care of it for you. If you think about it, it wouldn’t look good for someone who lives in a mansion like that to not have even one maid.」

「Do you deal in that too?」

    「Absolutely, sir.」

Salamus said with a bit of pride.

It was a little strange to see the difference from earlier, so I decided to tease him.

「What kind of maid would come to a haunted house?」

    「You needn’t worry about that.」

Salamus said with a straight face. It wasn’t the reaction I was expecting. I was like, 「Oh?」as I thought to myself.

「There are people who will come to work in any house, …… even the house of a murderer, as long as they are paid.」

    「Hmm, I see. So I guess we’re good.」

「Yes, sir. So, what kind of maid would you like?」

    「How’s it going with ……?」

    I thought about that.

I came to the Salamus Trading Company with the sole intention of getting a maid when I got my house. I came to the Salamus Trading Company with only one thought in mind, “If I get a house, I’ll get a maid!

When it comes to maids, there are maids who can do it and maids who can’t.

    ……

The steel-faced maid who wears a long skirt and gets the job done.

Or a clumsy little maid in a miniskirt who is constantly making mistakes and is very emotional.

I wonder which one is better.

「…… a maid who can do her job properly, I guess.」

「I see. The right person for the job is someone who can also be the head maid in the future.」

「Head maid, yeah, something like that.」

I imagined it and got a little excited.

A head maid who supervises the maids.

I’m the one who will be using the head maid.

    It’s really exciting.

    「So let’s look in that direction. Finally.」

    「Yeah.」

「A slave maid and a maid with common origins. Which would you prefer?」

    「Slave.」

    I responded immediately.

    That’s the obvious, non-negotiable part.

    「I didn’t think slaves were common ……, but that’s how it is.」

As I wandered around the city in the daytime, I ruminated on Salamus’ last question.

I left the store after that. As expected, they couldn’t prepare a person right away, so they asked me to come back tomorrow so they could look for one.

Now we’ve managed to talk about the maid.

As I thought about what to do next, I felt a pit in my stomach.

I walked into a nearby store at random.

It was like a diner on a street corner, and it was a busy place.

    「Welcome to the Pross Restaurant.」

I was greeted by a young woman dressed in a kerchief and apron.

I guess she is the waitress of this restaurant, or rather the poster girl.

    「What can I get for you?」

    「Uh, let’s see.」

    I looked inside the store.

There was a menu, but I couldn’t even read it.

「I’m not sure, do you have any recommendations?」

    「Sir, are you a traveller?」

「It’s kind of like that, huh? I just got here and I’m thinking about living here for a while.」

「That’s how it is. How about grilled mountain ox rice? It’s one of our most popular dishes, made with the city’s famous mountain ox and rice, grilled to perfection.」

    「That’s it then.」

    I answered immediately.

By the way, I realized that I had earned a lot of money from hunting mountain oxen, but I had never eaten a single one of them.

    「Yes, grilled mountain ox.」

    「Oh, a large one.」

    「Yes, a large one.」

The woman returned to the back of the store, leaving with a bright smile on her face.

A little while later, she returned with a plate full of grilled rice.

    「Thank you for waiting.」

「Oh, that looks so delicious. Oh, by the way, how much is it?」

    「Ten coppers.」

    「Huh, for this?」

I don’t have any copper coins, so I take out a silver coin and put it on the table.

    Then the woman looked troubled.

    「Silver coins, hmm.」

    「Was that not enough?」

「No, no, no. It’s the other way around. It’s enough, but I’m not sure if I have enough change.」

    「You don’t have enough change? Yeah.」

I guess it means she’s short on change. Sometimes that happens when you go to a convenience store or something like that.

「Well, then, with the remainder of this, bring me some other recommendations.」

    「Are you sure?」

    「Something delicious.」

Then the woman smiled brightly again, took the silver coin, and went back to the back of the store.

    I ate the grilled rice.

    「Oh! Yummy!」

It was only by recommendation that it tasted so good.

It tasted nostalgic, like a diner, or a home made meal.

However, the mountain ox meat used was very soft and juicy, and as soon as I bit into it, the juices rushed out and filled my mouth with delicious flavor.

I gobbled it down. It was so good that I finished off a large bowl of yaki-meshi in no time at all.

It’s more than usual, but not quite enough.

After taking a break, I wondered what the next recommendation would be.

    That’s what I was thinking.

「It’s not safe to collect any more copper coins in this city.」

Suspicious words were caught by my enhanced hearing.

I was distracted by that, along with the earlier discussion about change.

  • Kujibiki Tokushou: Musou Harem-ken Volume 1 Chapter 3

When I entered my room at the inn, I decided to check my money.

I put the cloth bag on the table and took out all the money inside with a bang.

All of them were identical, silver coins engraved with the profile of a great and noble king.

    I counted 99 of them.

The inn keeper took one when we entered the inn, so that would be exactly one hundred pieces for that one mountain ox.

「That’s all very clear, but how much is one of these worth?」

I picked up a silver coin and stared at it, then looked around the room.

It’s just a normal inn where you can sleep in.

If this were modern Japan, it would be between 5,000 yen and 10,000 yen a night.

In other words, one silver coin is worth that much, and one mountain ox is worth about 500,000 to 1 , 000,000 yen.

「Assuming this calculation is correct, …… this is very good. No, even if I don’t do anything else, I could stay at the inn for a hundred days purely for the price of one ox, so that’ s still just plain delicious.

I remembered the time I hunted mountain ox.

If I can make so much money with that level of effort, I should probably do more of that.

    I’ll go hunting again tomorrow.

I thought about that, and fell fast asleep.

The next day, I left the city in the same way and came to a meadow inhabited by mountain oxen.

The first animal I encountered had a group of people ahead of me. A group of mercenaries or some similar group, all with the same armor and weapons, were beating a mountain ox to a pulp.

I observed that a little …… well, I was thinking of leaving if the other side was not as bad as yesterday.

    However, that didn’t happen.

It took about an hour and a couple of minor injuries, but the group was able to hunt the mountain ox.

As they carried the mountain ox, I watch their backs as they head back to the city.

    If it’s a million a head, it’s 100,000 a person.

This was still a very nice part of the meal, but considering the risk of getting injured (it was only a minor injury, but it was at a level where I should have rested for a week or so)…

    「It’s usually about making a reasonable living.」

I wandered through the meadow. I wandered around, praying that I would encounter a mountain ox.

After about thirty minutes, we finally met.

As soon as the mountain ox sees me, its eyes go bloodshot and it snorts

It rushes at me, as expected.

    「Fuu!」

I didn’t dodge, but punched the mountain ox as it leaped toward me.

A counter punch, just right between the eyes, blew the mountain ox away.

It rolled on the ground, jerking, twitching.

After a few twitches, it stopped moving.

    「Let’s get going.」

I carried a mountain ox and returned to the city to exchange it for cash.

Then I came back to the meadow and wandered around again.

Encounter a mountain ox, defeat it, return, and the money is redeemed.

I went back, wandered around, and looked for mountain oxen.

Beat it and cash in, beat it and cash in.

I tried to keep repeating that, but …… I only hunted five animals that day.

To be honest, it takes much more time to find and carry them around than it does to defeat them.

That’s the last thing I said to the person at the store where I was going to exchange the money.

「Most of them only hunt one a day, so I’ve never heard them complain.」

    He said to me half-amused.

    I was subtly satisfied.

You wouldn’t think about how long it would take you to encounter and carry them if there was a chance that you might get hurt or run away because you couldn’t defeat them in the first place.

Well, that’s none of my business, either.

At any rate, I earned 550 pieces of silver for the day.

The guy at the store paid me an extra 10% as promised, so here we are.

This and yesterday’s earnings add up to 649 pieces.

At the most convenient interpretation, that’s the equivalent of six million four hundred and ninety thousand yen.

    「There you are.」

In the evening, I came to the store with a note in my hand.

I told the guy at the mountain ox store that I wanted to buy a house, and he introduced me to this store.

I opened the door and went inside.

In the surprisingly clean store, there was a middle-aged man with a big belly.

When the man saw me, he stood up and greeted me with a business smile.

「Welcome to the Salamus Trading Company. Is there anything I can help you with?」

    「I want to buy a house.」

I cut straight to the chase.

「I can take care of that. Is it for residential use? Or is it to be used for business?」

    「To live…」

At that moment, my housing situation in modern Japan flashed through my mind.

I put my dream on the request and said.

「I want it to be big, with a garden.」

    「I see, sir. So, what’s your budget?」

    「About this amount」

I placed a bag full of silver coins on the table.

「Six hundred and fifty pieces of silver.」

    I’m missing a piece, though.

    「I see.」

    The man’s face clouded over.

I wonder if it was still too little. No, it’s probably not enough.

I thought it was worth six and a half million yen, but according to last night’s calculations, it could be worth half that.

That would be about three million yen.

If I were a salesman, I’d be like,「What the hell is he talking about?」

When I thought about it, the man’s expression was just a little cloudy, so he might be a fine businessman.

    「Is that impossible?」

「It depends on the size of the house, but a typical house costs about two thousand silver coins.」

    「Two thousand pieces …… twenty million ……, that’s what I thought.」

「If you want a bigger place with a garden, it’ll cost almost twice as much as that…… in this town.」

    「Four Thousand ……」

40 mountain oxen, huh…… It’s not a problem, but it takes time, and more importantly, it’s a little depressing to see the number of oxen increase all at once.

If I hunt five cows a day, that’s over a week. No. If the encounter rate is bad, it could take more than a month.

    That’s tedious, too time-consuming.

Just when I thought I had no choice but to relax the conditions a bit.

「Pardon me, sir, but are you confident in your skill?」

「Skill? You mean strength? Well……. to some degree. Why are you asking this?」

    「This bag… Excuse me.」

The man spun the bag around and half-turned it over on the table.

    There’s a familiar logo there.

「The coat of arms of the Andreu Trading Company, which deals in mountain oxen. I guessed that the customer was hunting mountain oxen if he used this.」

    「I see.」

I saw the mark. It’s the same logo that was on the sign for that store – Andreu Trading Company, I think it’s called.

The man’s guess made sense to me, and I knew that I would probably be looking at this bag and the person holding it with that kind of eye from now on.

    「If that’s the case, though I can’t recommend it……, but I do have an idea.」

    「What do you mean?」

「It’s a mansion in the southeast part of town. …… If you’re a resident of this town, this alone should ring a bell. There is a mansion there that no one lives in. It’s also known as the haunted house.」

The man said with a bitter look on his face.

    「Haunted House.」

「Yes, it used to be the home of a wealthy merchant, but now there are rumours that he has passed, and no one wants to live there. In fact, a couple of people actually moved in, but they were all …….」

    「I see.」

「The house itself is very well furnished, and the space is perfect. If it weren’t for that, …… the property would normally cost over five thousand silver coins.」

「With such a shady history, no one wants to live there.」

    「It’s more like uninhabitable.」

    「Haunted house, huh? ……」

    I thought to myself.

I’m not afraid of psychic phenomena. I’m the type of person who doesn’t feel anything when I watch horror movies.

To be honest, I don’t mind living in an trouble-prone house if I can live there cheaply.

What worries me is if it really 「comes out」.

This is not modern Japan. And it’s the way a man talks.

    Maybe it’ll really come out.

If the ghosts appear, will they be able to be defeated ……?

I was troubled, but I asked him just the same.

「What’s the price, by the way?」

「Too much money has been spent, and we would be willing to part with it for a hundred …… silver pieces.」

    「I’ll buy it!」

    I answered immediately.

ne hundred pieces of more than 5,000.

    98% off!

It’s so cheap, there’s no reason not to buy it at all.

「Are you sure you want to do this?」

    「Aaa. If I see a ghost, I’ll kick its ass.」

I got excited and said something like that.

    「Yes, sir.」

The man was momentarily confused, but his expression quickly turned into the face of a merchant.

That’s how I got my house, my mansion.

If I see a ghost, I’m going to kick its ass, that’s how I feel.

    I came to the city.

I followed the road in the opposite direction from Princess Helene and ended up in a town of some sort.

The city is surrounded by stone walls in a European style.

It’s as if the city walls are there to protect it from something.

As I came to the entrance of the city, I was stopped by armed soldiers.

There are two soldiers, equipped with simple armour and long spears.

「Stop! Where do you come from?」

    「Eeh?」

    「Answer me.」

The soldier thrust his spear at me.

    「Let’s see, …… if you’re asking me where I’m from.」

I hesitated. They wouldn’t understand if I said Japan.

    「Why won’t you answer me, why?」

「You’re wearing strange clothes that I’ve never seen before.」

    「Suspicious little bastard.」

    「Eeeeeeeeh」

That’s kind of to be expected, I guess. Sure, I’m wearing a full-length boiler suit●I guess you can say what I’m wearing seems weird.

    ……Aah but, it’s just a curiosity, isn’t it?

It’s a far cry from the outfits of the inhabitants of the city, let alone the soldiers.

The first people I met were a princess, a knight, and bandits.

These soldiers were the next ones I met.

So I didn’t even take notice that the clothes I wore were different from the average person.

Well, what should I do? …….

「If you don’t answer, then I’ll have to apprehend you…」

    「Wait. Look at that.」

One of the soldiers tried to grab me, but the other one stopped him.

The person who stopped me pointed at my waist.

I looked to see what was going on, and there was the fan that Princess Helene had given me. I had it in my pocket, so the top half was showing.

    「Aaah, you mean this?」

I took out a fan and opened it to show him.

I looked at the crest and it looked sort of significant.

「It’s the royal coat of arms! And a fan, which means it’s ……」

「Belonged to Her Highness, Helene? No, but I’m sure Her Highness doesn’t give gifts very often. It’s been rumoured that the Marquis of Knights asked for it when he was successful in battle, but he never received it.」

    「But ……」

    「No, but…」

The two soldiers began to whisper to each other.

If what they’re saying is true, this seems like a tremendously amazing thing.

    I stared at the fan.

I remember the time it was given to me and the person who gave it to me.

    Princess Helene. …….

    「Excuse us.」

    「──. W, what is it?」

The soldier’s call made me jump and I rushed to answer him.

「Would you allow me to test it to see if it’s real?」

Perhaps it was the fan, but the soldier was much more reserved than before.

「If it were genuine, it would be imbued with the magic of the royal family.」

    「Um, ……, what do I do?」

    「Excuse us.」

The soldier held his hand up towards the fan and chanted something.

Then, with a faint light emanating from the fan, the crest appeared in three dimensions.

    「I, I’m sorry!」

    「Please come through!」

Apparently, now he could tell it was real.

The two soldiers looked even more horrified, and holding up their spears, they struck an erect, unmoving pose.

    I walked through the entrance.

Some of the residents near the entrance had seen the commotion and had turned into onlookers, watching me from afar.

    「That’s Her Highness Helene’s」

    「I heard it was real.」

「Which means that …… is someone close to Her Highness.」

    「A new nobleman, perhaps.」

My hearing has improved, so I can hear the voices of the onlookers more clearly.

    I feel really good.

It’s nice to feel good, but there are things I need to think about.

    Clothing, food, and shelter.

    It’s the basis of life.

I can make do with what I have for now (though I’ll have to buy new clothes in the near future), but food and shelter are very pressing issues.

To solve this problem ── I need money.

In other words, I have to make money.

I’m trying to figure out what to do about it.

    「Move over, move over.」

A group of four people passed me from behind. The four of them were in a wagon, with a huge beast on the back.

The beast was limp and unmoving. I don’t even know if it’s alive or dead.

The group stopped in front of one of the buildings and rode inside with the entire carriage.

After a while, they came out.

「All right, now that we have the money, let’s go get a drink.」

「I haven’t had a drink in a long time, so I’m gonna have one tonight.」

And then he went off somewhere.

「Did he cash that one in?」

I wanted to know, so I walked towards the building and went inside.

Inside was the wagon and the beast from earlier. There were men doing the heavy lifting to get it down, and a man in charge.

I approached the man in charge and asked him.

    「Excuse me.」

「Hmm, what is it? Are you another would-be hunter?」

「…… will you buy it from me if I hunt it down?」

It seemed like a quick conversation, so I decided to go along with it.

「Yeah, hunt down this mountain ox and I’ll buy it for a reasonable price.」

    「Mountain Ox …… Is this an ox?」

    I looked at the beast.

It certainly looks like an ox, but with its long mane and sharp tusks, it looks quite fierce.

To be honest, it doesn’t look like a herbivore, it looks like a carnivore.

「Are you alone? No offence, but if you don’t have anyone to help you, you shouldn’t do it. This guy is dangerous unless you have four or five skilled people or ten inexperienced people.」

    「Is that so?」

Ah. The meat is incredibly tasty and delicious, but it is very dangerous to hunt. Well, that’s what I’m paying you for.」

「…… Can you tell me where I can find this guy for now?」

I said and asked where it was located.

The man told me to make sure I went with the right people to help me until the end, but I thought I could handle it.

Relying on the map the man had given me, I left the city and came to a nearby meadow.

There’s a meadow with a mountain nearby, and it looks like there’s a mountain ox around here somewhere. ……

    「Whoa, there it is.」

I saw it in the distance.

To be precise, I saw a group of people in the middle of hunting mountain oxen.

The group consisted of six people, three in the vanguard and three in the rear.

「Either there’s already someone here, which means I’ ll have to go and find another one……」

That’s what I thought, so I left and tried to find another target.

    「Uwaaaa!」

「Job! Damn you, how dare you Job!」

「Stop being so incompetent and thrusting in randomly!」

The voice I heard sounded very much like it was not going well.

I stop and stare at them.

Then, one by one, I saw them being knocked back by the mountain ox.

Eventually, the vanguard collapsed, and the mountain ox lurched toward the rear guard.

The rearguard that was being pressed was clearly timid.

    「tsk」

I clicked my tongue and ran out.

I ran through the distance of about a hundred meters at once and tackled the mountain ox.

The mountain ox flew off but got back up.

It seems to be sturdier than humans.

I charged after him. I then punched the mountain ox in the side of its head.

It’s just a plain punch, but it’s a serious punch.

The mountain ox flailed, flew in the air, spinning like a drill, then fell back down, unable to get up.

I carried the mountain ox back to town (it was surprisingly light, probably because my arm strength had improved) and took it to the store I had just visited.

「Did you by any chance do this alone?」

    「Aaah. It was a piece of cake.」

「That’s a big deal. Aaa, it definitely is.」

The man looked at me in admiration, then hurriedly took out a cloth bag and handed it to me.

Inside the bag was a large number of silver coins that I had never seen before. He took out the whole bag in a flash, so this is probably the market price.

「Hey, man, can you hunt this guy down on a regular basis? If you keep bringing them in, I’ll give you an extra ten percent on the purchase price.」

I was offered some pretty good terms.

「How regular is do you want it?」

「One every two days, preferably every day.」

    「All right, I’ll try.」

    「I’m counting on you.」

    I nodded and walked away.

I found a job that was easy to figure out for now. I also got some money for the time being.

    「After that, it’s …….」

I look up at the sky. Before I knew it, it was evening.

First, we need to find a place to stay tonight.

    「So you’re okay with that skill?」

    「Yeah.」

    I nodded my head.

The result of turning the lottery machine hundreds of times, and what it contained.

There was no other choice but to do this.

「I understand. Well then, I’m going to do the transfer now. Well, just one last explanation.」

    「What is it?」

「If you want to come back to this world, you can always do so by strongly imagining it. However, please note that once you return, you will not be able to go back there again.」

    「Got it.」

    「Well then.」

The staff member said as a magic circle of light appeared from under my feet.

It’s the same scene as the man from earlier, the one who won the first prize.

The light enveloped me and my eyes went all white.

When my vision returned, I found myself in a foreign field.

In the middle of the forest where the sun shines through the foliage.

「Let’s see, …… are we in another world already?」

I looked at the surroundings. It is definitely a surprise to suddenly be in the open outdoors, but is it another world? I have no idea if that is the case.

It looked just like a picnic trail at a tourist attraction that I used to take on field trips.

「Oh, yeah, that’s right, the skill. 777 times my full abilities, right?」

I wondered what was up with that. Due to it stating all abilities, I should get an increase with everything.

I decided to try it for now.

I crouched down and jumped with a grunt, gathering strength in my legs.

    「Uwa!」

I couldn’t help but shout. I jumped lightly, but it was because I jumped up as if I had been launched by something.

The top of my head hit a tree, stuck through it, and I flew up at once.

The ground is a long way away, I’m at least twenty meters in the air.

    「That’s real force──Hmm」

I noticed something, far away. (Later, I realized that my eyesight was actually improved.)

I saw a carriage outside the forest.

A group of knights are guarding a carriage, which is being attacked by a group of men dressed in completely different outfits.

There are three defenders, and two of them are already down.

It’s hard to tell because he’s lying on the ground, but you can see the blood spreading from under his body.

At a rough count, there were more than ten attackers.

    「They’ re getting attacked, huh?」

I landed on the ground and ran in the direction of the carriage that was being attacked.

My legs are getting faster. The feeling of the wind blowing through the air was more than that of a bicycle, it was as fast as riding a motorcycle.

I ran out of the forest at once and rushed to the carriage that was being attacked.

「It’s over. You’ re in the middle of nowhere. Nobody’s coming to save you.」

    One of the attackers said.

Yes, I have decided. The way he said it, and the content of it, made him sound like a villain.

Without hesitation, I decided to help.

(What am I supposed to do ……?)

I try to do it, and then I realize.

I wondered what I should do.

I’m getting more powerful, but that’s it. To be honest, I played a little baseball as a kid, but I have no experience in martial arts.

I know very little about how to attack people.

(Yeah, I’m just gonna smash it!)

I tackled the man who had said the bad pitching line, remembering what I had seen on TV of a helper player rushing into home base.

「What the hell are you doooooooooooooooooooooing?」

The man’s voice sounded like it was a Doppler effect.

As for the man, he just flew away.

I was surprised at how fast he flew. When I tackled him, he flew away like a gag comic character.

How can we not consider that a gag manga is when he’s blown a few dozen meters, lands, bounces a few times, and doesn’t move a muscle.

    「What the fuck is that?」

    「Who the hell are you?」

The attacker and the attacked were both surprised.

Well, I guess I would be surprised if someone came out of nowhere like this.

Yet, I’m still glad I saved them.

The attackers are still foul-mouthed and look like bandits or the like, while the defenders wear armour with emblems and talk like knights of some kind.

    Yeah, I guess it’s a good thing I helped.

So I turned to the bandits.

「What the fuck is that? ……」

The frightened bandits were all blown away by the …… tackles, which were a bit …… restrained for the most part.

    「Thank you for your help.」

The man who seemed to be the leader of the knights put away his sword and thanked me.

    「My name is Fotis.」

「Oh, umm ……, I’m Yuuki, Yuuki Kakeru. It’s hard to write in kanji, so just use Kakeru.」

    「Kanji.. huh?」

「A,Aaa. No, it’s nothing. Just call me Kakeru.」

Fotis’ reaction made me realize that there are probably no Kanji characters in this world.

We were suddenly able to have a normal conversation, so I just said “kanji” in a usual way.

「I see. Thank you for your help, Kakeru-dono. I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t helped.」

    Fotis said sincerely.

The two of us, Fotis and I are standing there now.

Before I showed up, two of what looked like Fotis’ companions had already been defeated, and there were more than ten enemies left.

The fallen knight is now up and being patched up, but even now he doesn’t look like he can fight properly.

If it had gone on like that, it would have been a「what could have happened」situation for sure.

    「Fotis.」

A voice came from inside the carriage.

It was the voice of a beautiful, young woman.

    「Ha!」

    「Uncover the hood.」

    「By your will」

Fotis bent over exaggeratedly and then raised the top of the carriage.

    A woman emerged from inside.

    「Uwa……」

My voice leaked out. That’s how beautiful the woman who came out of the carriage was.

She was wearing a pure white dress and a shining tiara.

Long golden hair and pointy ears.

She carried herself with elegance, grace.

She got out of the carriage and stood in front of me, with the help of Fotis.

「My name is Helene Teresia Mercouri. I’m the third princess of the Kingdom of Mercouri.」

    「A,Aaa…… I’m Kakeru….. I think I said that, earlier?」

I was so overtaken by her beauty that I said my name again, even though I was sure she had heard it in the carriage.

    「Thank You, Kakeru-sama」

Princess Helene thanked me with a serious expression.

「No, no, no, no, no, I didn’t do anything important.」

    I faltered.

Of all the women I had seen, Princess Helene was without a doubt the most beautiful.

I gazed admiringly at Princess Helene.

「By all rights, I should invite Kakeru-sama to the royal palace and thank you profusely but I’m on my way to the front to offer comfort.」

    「U,Un……」

    「But I will reward you for this.」

Princess Helene pulled out her hand with a swoosh.

She gave me what was in her hand.

I received it and examined it.

It’s a folding fan with a magnificent coat of arms on it.

As soon as I held it in my hands, I could feel the warmth and the nice fragrance permeated.

「If you are visiting the Royal Palace, please stop by.」

「Show that to the castle guards, and they will understand.」

    Fotis gave a supplementary explanation.

    「A,aa…… I understand」

Before I could react properly, Princess Helene got back on the carriage and left with Fotis and the two injured knights managed to get moving.

I was left to sit around in a daze for a while after that.

    「She was beautiful. ……」

I mumbled, but my head, which had finally started to work after she was completely gone, I understood that it was too early to put it in the past tense.

TN Notes: I’ve taken over the translation of the LN from CClaw Translations, thank you BaToolo for the easy transition and your help with the additional resources.

I’ll link all CClaw’s translations in the TOC in parallel with mine.

I’m going to translate from the beginning to provide a sense of consanguinity between the translation from chapter to chapter. I’d rather not have a sense of abruptness from one translation to the next.

If you would like to see how the difference in perspective works between the translations, please feel free to read CClaw’s excellent version too.

I’m standing in line with my lottery ticket at the shopping arcade.

    「Yes, here’s a pack of tissues as a participation prize.」

I received one of those raffle tickets when I was shopping, and even though I don’t think I’m going to win anything, I’m still standing in line.

I looked at the list of the prizes while the people in front of me were getting tissue participation prizes one after the other.

    ・Participation prize tissue

・5th Prize Gift Certificate worth 1,000 yen

    ・4th Prize Assorted Candy

・3rd Prize The Latest Model Smartphone

・2nd Prize Hot Spring trip for 2 People

    ・1st Prize ???

It’s an ordinary list, but I’m really curious about the first prize.

Considering the 2nd prize is a trip for 2 to a hot spring, it’s probably an overseas trip or something like it.

While I was thinking about such things, the line progressed.

Garan Garan, I heard the clanging of a hand bell.

The guy in front of me seems to have won something.

    「Congratulations! What a surprise! You’ve won first prize!」

    「Aaaa,Yes!」

The guy did a triumphant pose.

「Pleas come to the back so that I can explain the prize to you.」

    「Oh!」

The man was led into the back by a staff member.

Now that the previous person is gone, it’s my turn.

    「First prize is now gone I guess……」

A staff member put a big X in the first place with a magic marker. That means it’s gone.

「Well, it looks like the smartphone is still there, so let’s just give it a spin.」

I hand the lottery ticket to the staff member and spin the lottery machine.

    Gara Gara Gara ── poto.

    「Oooo!」

Garan Garan Garan, the staff rang the hand bell.

    「Eh, is this for real?」

I was surprised, because I didn’t expect to win.

I watch a ball come out. The ball is rainbow-coloured.

I then look at the list of prizes.

1st prize is gold, 2nd prize is silver, 3rd prize is copper red and 4th and 5th prizes are blue and yellow respectively.

Nowhere does it say anything about a rainbow colour.

    「What’s this?」

I grabbed the ball and listened to the staff.

「Congratulations! You’ve hit the jackpot for the special hidden prize!」

    「Does such a thing exist?」

The people around me oohed and clapped their hands.

「Please come inside so that I can explain it to you.」

    「Got it.」

The staff took me into the building.

I was very excited. Is the prize so good that it needs to be explained?

I walked in and saw the man who had just won the first prize.

There was another hand-cranked lottery machine inside, the same as the one before.

The man turned it and it produced two balls.

Another staff member beside me took it and said,

    「It’s tentacles , huh.」

「Could it be a Skill that can allows the use of tentacles?」

    「Yes, that’s correct.」

    「Yeah!」

    「Then I’m transferring.」

I didn’t know what was going on or what he was talking about.

However, there’s something outrageous going on, and that’s all I know.

I think that because as soon as the staff said that, a light – a kind of magic circle – appeared under the man’s feet, and he disappeared without a trace.

    「What the hell?」

    「And you’re…」

「The winner of the grand prize.」

    「Oh, really?」

The staff in the room nodded and said to me,

「Congratulations once again. I will now explain the prize for the special prize.」

    「Ah, Ahh……」

「The special prize is the same as the first prize, the right to be transported to another world.」

「Eh, what did you just say?」

「The right to be transported to another world.」

The staff repeated the same line.

    「…… Is this a joke?」

「You saw what happened just then, right?」

    The staff said. I gulped.

A magic circle appeared and the man disappeared.

    It’s certainly not normal.

「That’s how one transfers to the other world.」

    「Is this really true?」

    「You’ll believe it when you’re being transferred.」

The staff member said. My confidence that this is true is growing.

「Well, so far, the 1st and special prize seem to be similar. The difference between the two is that for the 1st prize, you can draw a skill from this lottery once and use it in the other world, but for the special prize, you can use this lottery as much as you want.」

    「As much as you want?」

「Yes, but you can bring only the one with you. This means you can draw until you get the skill you like.」

    「I see ……」

I still didn’t know what was going on, but I nodded, for now, anyway.

「You can try again as many times as you like, so why don’t you just give it a try? Oh, and by the way, this room is half in the other world, so you can try out your skills.」

    「O,oh……」

I still didn’t understand, but I decided to accept it for now and move on.

I took the handle of the lottery tumbler and turned it.

My ball came out. The staff member took it and said.

「Fire-breathing man…… is a skill that allows you to blow fire from your mouth.」

    「Fire?」

「Would you like to try blowing? Oh, it’s dangerous, so please don’t blow towards me.」

Do I want to try blowing out fire? What is the best thing to say here……?

I turned my head to the side and breathed out.

    「Uwaaa!」

I really spewed fire from my mouth! My face is a little bit chapped.

「What do you think? Do you want to go with that ability?」

    「Eh, no, no, wait, wait」

I held up my hand and put my fingers on my forehead and thought about it.

I’m confused. Amidst all the confusion, one thing was clear.

    「Could it be true …… really?」

    It was.

「I can see why you might be sceptical.」

    The staff member said.

「…… Then let’s start over. I can start over as many times as you want?」

    「Yes, that’s so.」

「There are chances of it being the same thing?」

    「That’s correct.」

    「Okay」

    I nodded.

If I can draw as much as I want and get the same thing again, it’s better to try different things.

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

「This is…… 10x total abilities It’s a Skill that genuinely multiplies all of your abilities tenfold.」

    「It’s plain. Redo.」

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

    「Sage. It

It’s a skill that lets you have all knowledge.」

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

    「Berserker, this is── 」

「That title is NG (No good), start over」

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

    「All abilities doubled, huh──」

    「That’s no good, start over」

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

「I’m sorry, but this time all your powers are tripled. ……」

    「Yes, start over.」

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

    Gara, gara, gara, poto

I turned, and kept turning the lottery machine.

    Anyway, I just kept turning.

I turned, listened to the explanation, and started over.

There were some abilities that I could have used, but the more I spin it, the more I think that the first one with all abilities multiplied by ten was actually the jackpot.

    「My hands are tired. ……」

「I, too, am tired of explaining. ……」

Balls of various colours, various abilities.

I’ve pulled out a lot of them, so I already know them off just by their colour.

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

    Gara, gara, gara, poto.

    「Ooo! Rainbow coloured, this is a first!」

「Eeh? That’s not supposed to be in here. …… 」

    「What? What do you mean?」

The member of staff was surprised and picked up the rainbow coloured ball.

    Then he looked more surprised.

    「Sir, this is amazing.」

    「What’s amazing?」

    「All abilities multiplied by 777.」

When I heard the explanation, I was also surprised.

The rainbow-coloured ball looked surprisingly brilliant and shiny.
